Troubles in Mind

Life is full of trouble. Philosophically speaking, that is. Know someone stymied? Frustrated? Hurt? Angry? Alienated? All are part of being human. And if I don’t have any pressing problems in my own life, someone will call and give me some to meditate on, or I can turn on the news at the end of a weary day and get a dose that will leave me with heartburn and a headache. In that great ancient discourse on humans and their problems, Job is told by his “friend,” “man is born to trouble as surely as the sparks fly upward.” Wow. No “attaboy,” no “hope you get better soon,” no “I love you, man.” Just, “troubles come.” I hate it when the pessimist is right.
But the good news is we aren’t here by chance. We are not alone. We can trust God. We will learn eternal things. Will we get everything we want? Probably not. The older I grow, the more humbled I am to realize, life is the school room to prepare me for spiritual scope and width beyond my comprehension. I see discomfort. God sees opportunity. I may be upset by the current issue, but God is here. He listens. He cares. I stand before him and place my case.
“But as for me, I would seek God, and I would place my cause before God; who does great and unsearchable things…wonders without number.” Job 5:8-9(NIV). His “unsearchableness” makes me marvel. He’s working behind the scenes toward wonders I can’t count. I want to be a part of it.

Lord, I’m in the middle of a mess. I need you. I trust you. I want to be led by you. I thank you for the way you work to perfect your plan. I want to bring honor to you through every circumstance.

So true – our trouble and pain blinds us to the opportunity God uses for our growth.
