Waitin’ Ain’t Easy

God, do you know how old I am?

And in the deep recesses of my mind I heard a chuckle. (I kinda think if He numbers the hairs on my head He’s probably noticed that thirty something birthdays has passed by) But back to my story…

When I’m talking to God I try not to be selfish. I pray for the needs of others, family, friends, country and world… But, I admit, sometimes I do have those moments when I go before God and there’s only one person on my mind. In the words of country singer Toby Keith,

I wanna talk about me

If you read my introductory question you can probably guess where this is going. Usually, when a woman actually asks someone “do you know how old I am?” it’s for a very short list of reasons. I just happen to fit most of short list, thirty-something, single, desirous of marriage and children… you get the picture. So in asking God that question I was really asking, “have you forgotten me?”

Delight yourself also in the LORD,                                                                                                                                                                                                                              And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 (emphasis mine)

I’ve also been reminding him of his word, specifically the above promise in his word. After one of our conversations God lovingly said to me “my daughter, why are you focusing on things that I haven’t yet done?” He then reminded me of the many promises he had fulfilled. Some happened quickly and some over lonnnngggg periods of time.

Thank you Lord for precious reminders of your many blessings…

He ended with this questions “Will you still serve me, trust me, wait for me even if seems like I have not heard your prayers?

24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:24 (NIV)

But don’t get me wrong, waitin’ ain’t easy

Sometimes it’s hard to wait for God to bring to pass all that which we desire so much but I’m thankful that He does stand by his word and if we continue to find delight in him, he will give us the desires of our heart.

But until He does, with a thankful heart for the many blessings he has bestowed upon me I say,

Teach me Lord, teach me Lord, how to wait…

God bless,

Bernadine

Beautiful post. I agree that waiting isn’t easy but God being who He is, I always know that it will be well worth it!

Dear, I was two weeks shy of 31 when I got married, and didn’t meet my husband until about 8 months before that. I had just assumed that I would never get married. So, hang in there!

    Oh Bernadine,

I love your heart. Your transparancy… You are a woman whom God loves so very much. I have been walking this same walk… Waiting and God’s timing, I have found never matched my thoughts.

thank you for this devotion. It is wonderful and perfect scripture verses for both of us right now. I love you my sister. Hugs.

Your writing is from the heart, and will resonate with many other hearts. Sometimes we can’t help but feel that God has forgotten. Good reminder that he has not!

Sometimes we do feel like that God is not hearing our prayers or has forgotten about some ‘little’ details. Yes, waiting is not easy at all. I second your prayer that God teaches us to wait.

Thank you so much for sharing from the bottom of you heart…
