What is the difference?

I was having lunch with a friend, reading the Bible when a man at the next table asked what that big book that we were reading was.

Phil told him that it was the Bible.  The man tried to make the comparison between Islam and Christianity, reminding us that both religions have their set of rules.

What is the difference?

In most religions, the rules are there to help you earn salvation.

In Christianity, the rules are there to teach you  that you CANNOT earn salvation.

The difference is the Saviour.  There is no way that we can obey the law perfectly, so Christ obeyed for us.   The difference is Christ’s perfection.

I cannot earn my way into heaven, so Christ paid my price, covered my sin and saved my soul.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.  (Romans 5:6-11 – ESV)

You’re right, it’s hard for anyone to believe they can’t earn salvation. “For by grace you have been saved through faith: and that (faith) is not of ourself, but is a gift from God: not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” Eph.2:8-9
Faith is very hard for anyone to comprehend it until He gives it to you.
