Who do you Trust?

The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.
(Psalm 9:9-10 ESV)

I enjoy spy stories. My husband and I are currently watching “MI5” on Netflix. I really like the show because of its characters and stories they share. I know that it is totally fiction, and I am sure that the in-real-life MI5 is not as exciting as the TV show makes it seem.

In one of the episodes, the main character, Adam, said to his co-agent: “trust me, just one more time, trust me. If we want to make it out of this situation, you need to trust me”.

This particular episode made me think about who I (we) trust to make through our every day situations. Do we trust ourselves, or do we trust God to guide us through the tough parts? You see, God has a pretty good track record regarding trust.

However, the Bible is also full of stories about people not trusting God, but going out on their own. They felt that they knew better. Take Adam and Eve; they didn’t trust that God had their best interest in mind, so they ate from the forbidden tree. Or think about Moses when God told him to move God’s people out of Egypt. Moses was afraid and argued with God that he would not be the man for the job. But once Moses got over himself, God lead him and the people out of Egypt.

There is a common tread about people of the Bible and us, not trusting God for a good outcome. We believe that we can accomplish things without God. Even though we trust God in regards of our salvation. But how about our every day life, or dreams?

Sometimes I over-analyze things. I put too many ‘what ifs’ in the way for God to work things out. I had to surrender everything, get over myself and move forward in faith. Trust me, I have never felt better.

So, my question to you is this: who do you trust? Do you trust yourself or in the power of God? I tell you this: once you surrender everything, I mean everything, you feel much better. No more angst feelings, no more ‘what-if’ scenarios. Taking the first step is hard, but it will get easier, believe me.

“Lord of mercy and grace. Thank You for Your guidance and for helping me to surrender everything to You. You are the only one I can trust with all my heart. You are my stronghold and I know that You will never forsake me. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen”
