A Place of Security

This time of year means graduation parties for me these days. Everyone is going different directions; looking forward to changes and a wide open future. Some days this is exciting, but in reality, it’s also very unsettling. Life is about to change pretty drastically for many of these students. Where will they find their security in the midst of all these unstable circumstances?

I’m not a recent graduate, but there is still instability in my life too. Issues at church that still need to be resolved…concerns at work…relationships that have shifted over time…children with constantly changing needs…

If we’re honest, our lives are never really the same from day to day. Things are always in a state of flux and on those days, I want to know I have my feet on solid ground and I can wrap myself up in the strong arms of Jesus. Nothing in this world may be for sure, but GOD IS. He is, He was, and He always will be.

Insecurity starts in the pre-teen years, but it can haunt us for a lifetime. The uncertainty of whether or not you’re good enough begins when a clique of girls rejects you or a boy snobs you at a dance or you try something new and fail. Many young people have the added insecurities of an instable home life. For 4 nights they sleep at dad’s house and then 3 nights at mom’s, where all the rules are different and maybe even the siblings and the lifestyle. Where is the solid ground?

Psalm 139 reminds me that God created each one of us with purpose and tender love. Even when everything else in our world is uncertain, His love remains constant. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well…All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Isn’t that amazing? God made each one us unique and He knew what our lives would look like, who we would influence and how we would glorify Him. The love of our Father is more secure than any family home and deeper than even the love of mother and father. No matter what happens in life, we can find solid rock ground in Jesus. He is always there; He always loves us; He knows the depths of our souls and He loves us more than we could ever imagine.

So, no matter where we’re off to or what demons we face today, may we place our feet solidly on the love of Jesus and find our security in Him.

Oh so true, Heather. There are days when I don’t know to move forward, but I know the hand that leads me and I look up to give the strength I need.
