A Change Is Gonna Come

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed [changed] by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2 KJV).

For most of us just the word ‘change’ in itself makes us nervous or reluctant.  We all have heard the quote, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” by E. C. Brewer.  I know my mother does not like change – especially when it comes to technology.  I have to admit, I too get frustrated when I call a company and I get a recording that keeps telling me to push this button then that button and I never do get to talk to a real person.  I can do without this kind of change!

There are some changes that can be good for us – and for those around us too!  Like changing our clothes (and undies) every day – okay too much information?

There are changes that are for our good as well.  Such as change in laws.  Years ago there were no seat belts in cars, but now it is the law to wear seat belts as well as helmets when riding bikes.

If you are like my daughter, who likes to change/move her living room furniture around on a weekly basis.  Yes, weekly!  Needless to say my son-in-law cannot come home from work and just flop down without turning on the lights first or he may end up on the floor!

Change – This week I made what some may say a drastic decision.  This decision will change my life completely and will require discipline and commitment – for life.  This is where the “renewing of my mind” must be a daily process.

Anne Graham Lotz has said, “God can change our circumstances, but sometimes He waits for us to show desire for change as well as our faith in Him.”

I have been praying about this drastic change in my life for several years now.  The Lord has changed certain things and obstacles in my life but He was waiting for my complete desire and commitment in order for this change to take place.

In time I will share this special journey of change in my life, but for now to coin a phrase from the famous Sam Cooke song (MetroLyrics.com):

“Oh there been times that I thought I couldn’t last for long – But now I think I’m able to carry on – It’s been a long, a long time coming – But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will!”

Are you wondering why God has not made certain changes in your life as well?  Do you have the desire, commitment and faith needed for this change to happen?  What changes are needed in your life?

Recently made a change…we are on staff at a church that changed their vision and name. We had to decide if it was the change God wanted for us. We knew it was…but it has not all been easy. The peace we have though is wonderful and life is exciting..even at our ages…65 and 66 🙂 Excited to learn of your change.

Thank you for sharing Elaine. Change can be difficult, but at the same time exciting too! Pray for me, this change is a long process…. but will be worth it too!

Hey Michele, now you have me singing that song. Great post, I find change difficult also but I know that God ordained changes are worth it also.

I do not like change with/in certain things, but sometimes we need to make changes in order to grow.

So true Iris. In order to continue to grow in Christ was have to change and sometimes that change can be painful but it is for our own good.
