Clouds and You

We had been anticipating the trip for weeks. Waking early we put the last minute things into suitcases and walked through the house for one final check. My husband loaded all the stuff into the car while I set the alarm and locked the door. Settling into our seats, we prayed for safe travels and loved ones left behind. One last look and we moved slowly down the driveway and down our quiet street.

Our journey would take us through three different states – each unique and uniquely beautiful. I got comfortable in my seat, camera at the ready. We passed rolling hills and buttes sprouting dozens of wind mills. The land flattened out and I found my gaze moving upward.

As silly as it sounds, once I allow myself to look into a sky filled with huge cumulus clouds, I am lost. Lost in the wonder of the images that come to life right before my eyes. Clouds. that to the unimaginative eye look much the same, suddenly take on form and shape. Elephants, bunnies, dinosaurs, ladies in bonnets, alligators, long-haired maidens, the Grinch, a dancing pony ….they dance across the brilliant blue back drop. I cannot take my eyes off them. The land rolls by, and I am lost in the heavens.

Imagine a Father in heaven looking down on millions and millions of people. Were we to look down from His lofty throne they would, no doubt, all look pretty much alike. Hard to see the details from such heights. His perspective, however, is far different from ours. His loving gaze sees each one as unique – cherishing the details He Himself has crafted into each life.

You are His precious child. He sees you in such detail, He knows the number of hairs on your head. He knows everything about you, for He is the author of your story – written long before you were born. He loves you with a love that could not spare His own Son when He knew you needed saving. You are indeed precious in His sight. He doesn’t even see the things that weigh you down with guilt and regret. He has covered them with the blood that washes away all wrong.

You aren’t just one of the crowd (or one of the clouds) you are His beloved child.

“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.”

Psalm 139:13-16 (The Message)

Blessings,

Linda
