Every Day A New Beginning

Early-Morning-copy

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
(Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV)

We are always getting excited when a new year rolls around. We have hope that the new year will be better than the previous year. We list new goals that we want to archive in the coming year. We make resolutions to be healthier, eat better and exercise more. We have new dreams…

However, the author of the book of Lamentations reminds us that God’s mercies never come to an end; that they are new every morning. So why is that we always get excited about a new beginning on New Years?

Don’t get me wrong; I have a goal list for 2016. However, yesterday as I was reading my morning devotion, something popped into my head. I always want everything to be perfect. I don’t like it when I get things wrong, or mess something up. And often I cross off a goal from my list because I did not meet my own expectations. So I posted the following on Facebook:

“Don’t let perfectionism steal the joy of living. Life is messy and unpredictable. Take every moment as a blessing, even when the moment is not perfect…”

Not only did I wanted to encourage others, I posted it as a reminder for myself. I will miss the mark sometimes; I need to let go of perfectionism. No one is perfect this side of heaven. The below quote sums up how I want approach life’s challenges:

“Life is like a camera. Focus on what is important. Capture the good times. Develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, take another shot”

Staying close to God through His son Jesus, it is the most important thing I need to focus on. I do want to archive my goals for 2016, but also want to remember that His mercies are new every morning. And with that knowledge I can approach each day as a new beginning…

“Lord of mercy and grace. Thank You for the reminder that You give me a fresh start each and every day. Lord, help me up when I fall and encourage me through Your Word when I get discouraged. Lord, give me Your wisdom to encourage others on this journey. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.”
