When God Gets My Leftovers

This past weekend my family and I went to Red Robin for lunch. Burgers, salads, wraps, and fries. Yummy!

Because we all love their fries, we asked for a To Go box. My son Justin claimed we’d eat them later. Now you need to know I am NOT one to eat leftovers. Especially day old french fries. Actually, I often throw away our leftovers when I find them in our fridge a few days later because no one has touched them.

No one is excited about leftovers, no matter what how delicious it was.

Why is that?

Because food tastes better when it’s fresh off the grill, or in this case, fresh from the fryer. Once food sits a while even the best tasting meal loses its appeal. It often loses the fresh smell and even the texture changes. Especially when it’s reheated. Who likes spongy, dried out or soggy?

I’m just not into leftovers.

And neither is God.

God used this leftover box to ask me a hard question.

“Do I get your leftovers?

Naturally I wanted to say, “No way.” But the truth is sometimes God does get dished up my leftovers. I put people and ministry and other good things before my relationship with Him. Ouch.

God reminded me He wants to dine with me morning, noon and night. He wants us to share life together as it happens. Fresh, hot off the grill. He doesn’t want yesterday’s meals reheated. I don’t blame Him.

Father God, thank You for loving me enough to remind me of what matters most: You and me dining together. I don’t want to serve You my leftovers anymore. Forgive me for the times I pushed You aside and made You wait. I want You to be first in my life again. Let’s do lunch! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:19-21(NIV)

Ouch indeed, Tiffany. I do give God my left-overs at times. May your words remind me daily to not give Him my left-overs.

    Tiffany,

That’s good stuff! Thanks for this reminder! It’s a tough question to answer but its a question we all need to ask ourselves.

    Beautiful prayer 🙂

    Blessings,

Great analogy Tiffany! (Although I do love leftovers. Weird aren’t I?)

It’s so true that God wants our first offering. Our first fruits. The best we have to offer.

    Beautifully said as usual!

    Blessings to you,
    Kelli

    Wow… Ummmm

Father God, I seek forgiveness for being so selfish and serving you leftovers. I pray that I will seek to spend life afresh with you daily. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Tiffany, what a wonderful Word today! And so right … often times we do just give God our leftovers, not only should we be giving Him our first fruits with our money, but with our time and talent as well. Good post!

The french fries were a perfect visual for your post, as I would not eat them either, but yet I do offer God my leftovers all the time. Great comparison…now…how do I change my habit?
