John Grisham has Nothing On Us!

July 1st my daughter and I set out on a road trip. We are visiting with our zany family who are spread out among the states of California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. Our trip culminates this Saturday, July 12th, with a family reunion in a tiny town in southeast Colorado.

So far we have delighted in many fantastic adventures and even several once in a lifetime experiences. I am certain our escapades will be the lore of stories passed down to grandkids. Parades down main street throwing candy, rope swings over fishing holes, digging for Indian arrowhead, are just a few.

God is so very good.

Intertwined in the goodtimes, however, is an undercurrent. Dysfunction of various sorts pervades my extended family. There are more sub-plots boiling under the surface than in a John Grisham novel. Greed driven by fear, distrust, backstabbing. And lies.

I see a family lost in this ugly world. They have fallen victim to the Three C’s which steal truth; comparison, conflict and criticism.

It takes my full body armor (Ephesians 6) to withstand the spiritual onslaught at times. Praise God I have escaped this tangled mess throught the liberating power of Jesus Christ.

I listen to the voice of truth. The Three C’s cannot defeat me.

I pray with fervor for my family and I live out the truth before them to the best of my ability. I have hope the Lord Jesus will save them all.

Through the power of Christ and by His wisdom, I recognize the Three C’s when they creep into my mind. I listen to the voice of truth and escape the traps of deception.

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the voice of truth says “do not be afraid!”
and the voice of truth says “this is for my glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.

I am glad that you are having a great time spending with your daughter.
I know, sometimes it is hard to see others not knowing Christ, especially when it comes to our extended family. I know that He will give you the ‘power’ to let His light shine through you.

Keep safe on your continued travels my friend…

I am always amazed at God’s timing on the Laced with Grace entries as they are always something I need to hear. I love your Three C’s and see it a lot in my family as well. Hopefully the rest of my family sees the light in me rather than more C’s…..

It sounds like the trip of a lifetime Lynn! I’m so glad you got to share it with your daughter. I am confident that your family will see Jesus in your life – and prayerfully that glimpse will cause them to want to have what you have.
