Reflecting Back & Moving Forward

The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore. (Psalm 121:8 – ESV)

It is the time of year again when we reflect on the year past, and what may lay ahead.

For me, 2018 was a mixed bag of joy and sorrow. There were so many things that God blessed me with, and I try to focus on the blessings.

My husband’s health is still a great concern, however he finally found a kidney doctor that he trusts.

At my work things went from bad to worse, however I was blessed that my application for another position, in a different department, was accepted.

For almost 3 months I worked on my photography portfolio to try for a 4th time to be accepted to a prestigious program. It was stressful, however God was gracious to send two amazing women to see me through the process. In May of this year, my portfolio was accepted.

In November I received a message from my dear sister that our aunt passed away suddenly. It appears that she did not suffer. I just wish I could be in Germany with my sister so that we can handle her estate together. I am thankful that we have the internet and we can communicate fairly quickly.

Yes, this year had its joys and sorrows, but there is always a silver lining in everything.

As I am looking forward to 2019, I am ready to set goals. Over the past 10 years or so, I have always chosen a word to guide me through the year. For 2019 the word is “courage” once again. You see, for most of my goals, I do need courage. I am a shy person by nature, but my goals require to be courageous.

Reading Psalm 121, I know I can lift my eyes to the One who will give me the needed courage. I know that I can trust God to see me through 2019, just as He has done the past 58 years.

I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2 ESV)

Lord of heaven and earth. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank You for Your Word so that I can find strength and courage. I am trusting You that You will guide me in every decision that I make. I pray that all I do and say will glorify Your name. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

Courage is a great word to start the new year with. May we all find the courage to face whatever may come our way in this new year. Happy New Year Iris! ((hugs))
