Reminder on a snowy day

Are you ready for spring?  I’ve heard more than one person say they are done with winter. Many complain about the cold temperatures we have had here in Texas because we have had snow and ice more than once this winter.  We so rarely face these conditions that sometimes the entire city seems to shut down.

We had a snow day last week. I enjoyed staying curled up in my warm bed longer than usual and then looking outside at our beautiful snow-covered yard. Everything was so still and peaceful.

I noticed birds out the back window and enjoyed watching them as I sat on the couch enjoying some apple cider.  There was such a variety of birds coming around the porch. We saw blue jays, cardinals, doves, and several others. My son set out some bird seed in a dish and took this picture through the window.

I couldn’t help but be reminded of the verses in the Bible about birds, even all the way back in Genesis.

“And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.  And God said, ‘Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.’  So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”  Genesis 1:19–21

“Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.’ ” Matthew 8:20

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”  Matthew 6:26

These creatures that fill our trees (and sometimes cause us irritation) were created by our Heavenly Father, and they each matter to Him. They come in all colors and sizes and the Lord knows their needs.

I normally don’t give much thought to birds, but as I watched them I was thankful for the reminder that the God we serve cares about the birds and He cares for me.

Thank you, Lord, for creating such a beautiful world and giving us seasons.  Thank you for the reminder from the birds that you care about me.  I praise you Lord for this day and for the beauty of your creation.

(Maybe spring is not too far off. I had a feeling of excitement inside when I saw this in my front flower bed amidst the ice and snow.)

What a wonderful reminder that everything we see around us is created by God. I think snow days are a reminder from God to just slow down our hectic life.
