Who’s Beside You?

Romans 8:31
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

I’m about to have two teenagers driving…so driver’s training is on my mind. Last night I was thinking about (many years ago) when I was taking driver’s training. My instructor would have us drive along and would suddenly put his notebook over the rearview mirror and ask, “What’s behind you?”

One time I remember answering very confidently, “A blue car.” He uncovered the mirror…there was nothing there. It made an impression on me and I went home and told my dad and what he said has stuck with me for thirty years.

It doesn’t matter what is behind you as much as it matters who is beside you.

How true that is!

As I go through life as a single mom, some days it seems as though life is “chasing me”. There is this problem and that issue. The roof, the car, the furnace; something is always behind me.

Imagine Christ sitting beside you, hiding your mirror. “What’s behind you?” What’s chasing you?

Make no mistake, there may be something in that mirror…but it doesn’t matter so much what is behind you as it does Who is beside you.

Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the LORD,and he will sustain you…

What a great way for me to begin my busy day!!! I don’t look forward to the learning to drive years but the habit of leaning hard into the Lord who is walking beside me will surely ease some of my anxiety 🙂 Keeping my mirror covered 🙂

That was a great post and reminder to always remember that he is beside us. That really brightened my day! Thanks!

Thank you Ellen for the reminder that He will never leave us or forsake us. It is a comfort in this dark world.
Although our son is 21, he doesn’t want to get his drivers license. Hm – not sure why.
    Blessings on your day…

    Ellen,

I too have been a single Mom. It is more frightening than most people realize. I love Romans 8:31. I would cling to it for comfort…. still do.

    Thank you!

Excellent thoughts! I love knowing that I have the God of the Universe “on my side” and at my side! Blesings. 🙂

Nice post. I too will have boys driving in a few years, uggg… It is like in the book of Daniel, they saw 4 people in the fire instead of the 3 they threw in. God is always there with us.

Hang in there Ellen, God never ever fails us! Being a single mom has to be the hardest job ever. But as God as our “husband, father, comforter,& best friend, you will look back someday and say, “How did I do it?”, why only with the help of the almighty Lord. I have been there and when I look back now, I see how his hands have always there leading and comforting us all along. God Bless
